Solve Proportions with Equations
A proportion is an equation saying two ratios are equal, such as 3/4 = x/20. Multiply across the equals sign, so 3 × 20 = 4 × x, then divide to leave x on its own, giving 15. Cross multiplying works because both sides may be scaled by the same amount.
