Percent as Hundredths

Percent means out of one hundred, so 40% is 40 squares of a hundred-square shaded in. That makes every percent a fraction with a denominator of 100, and a decimal too: 40% is 40/100, which is 0.4. Moving between the three forms renames the same amount rather than changing it.
