Perimeter as Boundary

Perimeter is the distance right around the outside of a shape. Trace the boundary once and add every side you travel along: a shape with sides of 5, 3, 5, and 3 cm has a perimeter of 16 cm. Because perimeter is a length, it is measured in cm or m, never in cm².
